10 Best Wedding and Couples’ Photos of 2018

Cakes as magnificent as the Sistine Chapel, couples whose love for each other strengthened our own marriage, and the most gracious vendors who blessed us with their talents and their friendship. These are the aspects of 2018 that stand out the most to us as we reflect back on an incredible year of growth. Each of the following images has a story and a reason behind why they were selected as one of our 10 best photos, and we can’t wait to share them with you!

Cakes as magnificent as the Sistine Chapel, couples whose love for each other strengthened our own marriage, and the most gracious vendors who blessed us with their talents and their friendship. These are the aspects of 2018 that stand out the most to us as we reflect back on an incredible year of growth. As 2018 comes to a close, we loved going through all of our work this past year to create a blog post for all of our top wedding and couples photos. That process was difficult and rewarding, but creating a post for our top 10 best wedding photos of the year was much harder. Each of the following images has a story and a reason behind why they were selected as one of our 10 best photos, and we can’t wait to share them with you!

1. The Rose Petal Toss

The rose petal toss was something that we had wanted to try out for a long time. There’s just something special about tossing petals in the air to surround a bride and groom after they have made their vows as husband and wife or as a final sendoff during their grand exit! If there was a behind the scenes photo to this picture as well you would see all the hands that went into making it happen. If not for the vendors’ help plucking the petals, tossing them, and cleaning them up there is no way it would have been possible! Big thanks to all of them!

There was no place better for this than Talia Event Center! Talia Event Center in Clearfield is one of the new wedding venues that we have been working with this past year, and we can’t wait to serve them more this coming year! The clean, modern, and elegant environment is the perfect setting for an elegant Utah wedding! You can see all the vendors involved in this shoot at this link.

2. Fall in Utah

We loved doing this shoot with Elissa and Austen. If we could use one word to describe their session it would be “Joy”. They had us rolling with laughter throughout the entire session. There is nothing better than having a smile on your face and laughing for over an hour. It’s one of the things that makes our job so rewarding! Their session was one of the last shoots we did before the snow fell, so we were so excited to get some images with the fall colors! We couldn’t help but select this as one of our 10 best photos of the year!

3. Pure Happiness

Throughout 2018 we photographed weddings and couples in so many different types of weather. This weather ranged from blizzards, to rain storms, to layers of smoke and haze. For a lot of the summer there were fires burning all across the country and the smoke from those fires traveled far. We visited Grand Teton National Park this year, which was Jessie’s first trip to that area. While we were visiting, we could barely see the Tetons because they were covered in thick layers of polluted air. It was rather anti-climactic for a first visit!

However, the haze was actually a benefit to the light in this picture at Brittiny and Jared’s wedding. With the light and their happiness combined, it made such a perfect picture. We love this picture because the emotion is so real. You feel like you are there and in the moment celebrating with them. Golden hour pictures on a wedding day are so worth it! Also a huge shout-out to Dancing Daisies Floral for her work on Brittiny’s bouquet! It’s the perfect touch in this picture!

4. Favorite Ring Shot

This is our favorite ring shot to date. When Dallin set these rings up for the shot, things just magically fell into place. The purple light on the blush tinted diamond ring couldn’t have been any more perfect, especially when combined with the reflection underneath the rings. Another big thanks to Talia Event Center for being the perfect location for this ring shot.

5. The Salt Lake Temple

This wedding image of Breanna and Devin with the Salt Lake Temple used a technique that we had been dying to try out. It really shows the grandness of the temple on that day and made for a unique and epic style of shot. We can’t wait to try this idea out more with different locations this next year!

6. Wedding Details in the Snow

This wedding was so memorable for us. We mentioned previously that this year was filled with all kinds of different weather conditions that made every wedding so unique. Richard and Cristal’s wedding was a total blizzard at the Bountiful Temple. Because of the weather, we had to hurry with portraits outside the temple, but we were able to take advantage of the new snow that reminded us of something out of Narnia. These two had so many fun and unique details that represented them and their personalities. As soon as we set up this shot with the top hat, cane, and bouquet, we knew it was going to be a favorite!

7. The Sistine Chapel of Cakes

We nicknamed this cake that was created by Sweet Craving by Marcia the Sistine Chapel of cakes for a reason. It was ornate, detailed, and magnificent! This seven layer cake took upwards of 60 plus hours of work, and was so large that a cake stand was going to cost hundreds of dollars. In order to save money, Marcia used a clock as the base – genius! To top it all off, the cake was Snickers flavored. DELICIOUS! We can’t wait to work more with Marcia this coming year, and to see the next work of art she creates!

8. A Winter Engagement

We love trying new things during photo shoots! During this engagement session with Leslie and Nate we wanted to do something featuring Christmas lights. It was cold and snowy at Mueller Park in Bountiful and made for the perfect setting. We held the Christmas lights up to create an awesome framing effect that made their engagement session unique!

9. A Cake Smash!

There is nothing better at a wedding reception than a good cake smash! The majority of couples are nice to each other during their cake cutting. This is usually because they don’t want to get cake on their clothes, which is a fair reason, but when we get a smash, WE LOVE IT!

This cake cutting started out pleasantly like any other cake cutting, but the mood shifted quickly when Brittiny suddenly slammed a handful of cake into her MMA fighter husband’s face! It was so fun to see the crowd’s reactions behind them when it happened!

10. Sparkler Exit to a Limo

We love sparkler exits and we love the lighting that we get to do during them. Wedding guests also love to help by holding the sparklers and it makes for an exciting and fun atmosphere! Rachel and Nathan’s exit was one of our favorites of the year! It was so much fun to photograph them as they made their way through their tunnel of friends and family and to their getaway limo!
