When you hire a professional photographer for your wedding day, engagement, portrait, or family session, you are making an investment. It only makes sense because of your investment to make sure that you look your very best in those pictures! We do a lot of work while shooting and editing to make you look awesome, but we can’t replace your makeup or your how great your hair looks. One of the reasons we love working with hair and makeup artists is because they are so much fun! One of our favorites is Hailey Gomez. We’ve worked with her on multiple occasions and love the energy and joy that she always brings when serving her clients. Not only is she an awesome person, but she is so freaking talented when it comes to hair and makeup! We wanted to do a featured blog post interview with her to learn more about her, and to find out some of the reasons why you should hire a professional hair and makeup artist.
Here are a few questions that we asked Hailey about her and her business:
Ever since I was little, I’ve always loved playing with hair and makeup. I actually never considered a career in cosmetology until I was in college. Every career path I chose didn’t feel right, so I decided to explore other avenues of interest. I walked into a cosmetology school and I immediately felt excited! I signed up just days later. I’ve been in the beauty industry for over ten years now, and I love it!
My favorite thing is making new friendships. Many of my brides have become my lifelong friends! I also love expressing my creativity through their hair and makeup.
My brides always choose their own styles for hair and makeup. It’s rare to have a bride who isn’t sure what look she wants, or one that wants something really crazy. If they come to me with multiple ideas for their hair and makeup, I always help them narrow it down to what I think will suit them best. Ultimately, the final end decision is theirs!
It’s so important to hire a professional hair and makeup artist for your wedding. The biggest advantage of hiring a professional is that you eliminate a lot of stress! Your wedding day should start with a pamper session, not with unneeded stress! Not to mention the bonus of looking like a babe on the most important day of your life!
There are a couple of things I wish more women knew before they hire a professional hair and makeup artist! When you find a picture of something you’d like to recreate on yourself, show it to us! Pictures help us stay on the same page as you. That way we are able to give you the exact look you’re hoping for. That being said, if you show your stylist a picture of someone with voluminous, thick hair and you have thin hair, that style is not going to look the same on you. So make sure you’re expectations are realistic!
For Makeup:
Always use an eyeshadow primer! Even if that’s all that you end up wearing for your shadow that day. It evens out your skin tone and covers up any veins on your eyelids. If you do have time to put eyeshadow on, it will last all day without creasing or fading. My favorite eyeshadow primer is from MAC in the shade painterly.
Another tip is for skincare. Make sure you remove your makeup every night and apply a light moisturizer before bed. You will see an immediate change in your makeup application and your overall skin texture. Girl, wash your face! (Anyone read that book?! It’s so good! And it’s not at all about skincare, lol!)
For Hair:
Don’t wash your hair every day. You’ve probably heard this tip over and over again, but it’s important! Use dry shampoo to extend your wash and to add volume to your hair. My favorite dry shampoo from the drug store is from the brand “Not Your Mothers” dry shampoo. It’s a winner! Also, don’t use heat on your hair every day. Braids, side-ponies, and messy buns are my go-to to keep the heat off my hair. Say no to heat!
