Star Wars Themed Wedding at Oak Hills in Utah

Some weddings feel elegant, and some feel romantic. The best weddings, though, are full of life, love, and personality! Bunny and James’ Star Wars themed wedding at Oak Hills in Utah felt like stepping straight into a galaxy far, far away.

Their wedding checked all of the boxes for an incredible day. They had Star Wars details everywhere, and did it in such a classy way! From lightsabers to stormtrooper helmets, they leaned into what they love and created a wedding that felt like them. Those are always our favorite kinds of wedding days to photograph!

Finding Each Other (And Choosing Love Again)

Bunny and James first met while working together in Alaska. They became friends quickly, bonding over shared interests in health and fitness. Similar to a lot of good love stories, it started as a friendship. The two of them had already lived a lot of life by the time they found each other. This was a second marriage for both of them, and that meant they knew what really mattered in a relationship. Life took them in different directions for a while. Somewhere along the way, their friendship turned into something more, and they started dating.

James says Bunny is the calm in his chaos, and he’s the calm to hers.

When James decided he wanted to propose, he made sure to include the people who mattered most to Bunny. Around Christmas in 2023, he secretly asked Bunny’s parents and kids for permission to marry her. Everyone kept the secret. Then on March 14, 2024, while they were visiting Bunny’s parents, James sat nervously on the porch swing with the ring in his pocket, waiting for the right moment. Before he could even pull the ring out, Bunny came outside to check on him. Earlier that day, he had learned that his grandmother had passed away, and Bunny wanted to make sure he was okay. As they sat there talking about life and their future together, Bunny held his hand and said something that made the moment perfect.

“I could retire and do this with you.”

That was James’ cue. He stood up, got down on one knee, and asked her to marry him while her family secretly watched through windows, trying to capture the moment. For both of them, this wedding wasn’t just about getting married. It was about finding the right person after everything life had already taught them.

Meaningful Details

Along with the fun details, there were also some really meaningful ones. James wore his grandfather’s watch during the wedding, and he had photos of his parents, who had both passed away, attached to his boutonniere so they could still be part of the day. Bunny also shared a first look with her dad and gave him a handkerchief with a personal message. It’s these kinds of details that can lead to emotional moments you never forget.

Lightsabers Under the Stars

One of our favorite moments happened later in the evening after the sun went down. Bunny and James stepped outside wearing their helmets and holding their lightsabers while we photographed them under the night sky. Seeing the lightsabers glowing with the stars above them felt like the perfect ending to their Star Wars themed wedding!
