“This is Us” is one of our favorite shows on TV right now.  One of the themes and sayings in the show that is repeated over and over again is that “there is no lemon so sour that you can’t make something resembling lemonade.”  Although this is a wonderful quote… sometimes real life happens and it can be difficult to put it into practice.  Sometimes, the pain is so real and hard that it doesn’t feel like there is any way that you will ever come out of it and make anything resembling lemonade.  As we met with Ashley, Ryan and their girls for this Salt Lake engagement and family session, it was evident that they had made lemonade.

Ashley and Ryan both lost their spouses last year within a week of each other.  Although they didn’t know each other at the time, they both experienced what can only be termed as hell.  They each decided on their own to join a Facebook group for widows, which is where they met and became friends.  They later fell in love and as they explain it, “two broken hearts became one.” This was symbolized by Ashley’s STUNNING engagement ring.  Two blue sapphire stones on each side of the middle diamond each represent one of their spouses that passed away.  They use those sapphires to honor their spouses because they know that without them, they could not have met, almost as if their spouses brought them together.

We absolutely loved this Salt Lake engagement and family session.  Ashley’s three girls came with them and we had a family/engagement shoot.  The smiles, jokes, and silly faces throughout the session made it so obvious that these five people make an amazing, happy family. Our boy Liam came to the shoot with us, strapped on Dallin’s back as he shot.  Liam had the time of his life because the girls were constantly coming up to him and making him laugh!

Ashley and Ryan, thank you so much for allowing us to take your family and engagement photos!  From our short time together, we could tell that you are both kind, loving, and love to serve those around you.  We are confident that the both of you will have a happy and joyful marriage.  We wish you all the best!
