5 Reasons Why You Need Two Photographers

One of our favorite things about being a husband and wife photography team is that there are two of us! That means that you always will have a second shooter at your wedding or portrait session. Here are our top five reasons why you need two photographers!

One of our favorite things about being a husband and wife photography team is that there are two of us! That means that you always will have a second shooter at your wedding, formal, or engagement session. Have you ever wondered why you should want to have two photographers at your wedding? Based on our experience having two photographers at your wedding or event is invaluable. Here are our top five reasons why you need two photographers!

1. More Candid Pictures, AND More Pictures Period.

The first bonus to having an additional photographer is that you get more pictures! This goes for wedding days, formals, and engagement sessions too. Definitely a great perk! Normally a second shooter isn’t taking the same pictures that a first or main photographer does during the main portions of the day. Second shooters focus on the candid moment. These are the moments that are happening behind the scenes during a wedding day that the bride and groom would otherwise miss.

2. More Creativity and Variety

Imagine you’re at a wedding and group pictures are happening. During this time the main photographer is focused on getting the traditional pictures of the full groups, while for us Dallin would be focusing on taking pictures from different angles. Most of the time it’s these different angles that make for the most artistic and creative images! Even when we are out with couples on their engagement sessions, one of our favorite things is when Dallin finds new and interesting angles to shoot from. These pictures are ones that either Jessie as the main shooter wouldn’t see, or wouldn’t have the extra time needed to find.

On wedding days one of our favorite things to do is to take portraits of individuals and families that are close family members or friends of the bride and groom. Without a second photographer, pictures like this wouldn’t be possible! Again, you will get more pictures and a lot more variety!

3. Saves Time and Hours of Coverage

When it comes time for the wedding day, one of the most important reasons why you need two photographers is that we are able to stretch and cover more ground in a lot less time. For example, if a bride and groom are getting ready for their wedding, Jessie will take pictures with the bride and her bridesmaids, while Dallin will take pictures with the groom and his groomsmen. If there was only one of us, it would take at least one additional hour of coverage time, not including travel.

4. Two Photographers Will Serve you Better and Help with Posing!

Second shooters don’t always work in the roll of photographer. Sometimes it’s better to have them help out and do some of the grunt work rather than take pictures. Whether that means working with lighting, setting up equipment, running to get water for the bride and groom, or holding an umbrella up for the bride and groom in the pouring rain. Dallin also has a little known talent for fluffing veils and wedding dresses. He is the master at making them look pristine for pictures!

When we take our brides and grooms around for pictures, it’s so nice to have two of us there to help teach and model different poses. It’s hard to demonstrate a lift or a dip if you don’t have a partner! Try it out and you’ll understand!

5. More Reception Coverage

Another one of the reasons why you need two photographers is to get more reception coverage! There is always a lot that happens during a wedding reception. There are events, guests coming and going, and so many details to take pictures of. Having both of us there to take pictures means that we can get more pictures of all of these different parts of your reception. Dallin likes to mingle with guests and get pictures of them, while Jessie loves to take time to get great pictures of all of the details!

After hearing all of these reasons why you need two photographers for your wedding day, could you now have your wedding and only hire one? We love working with our couples and serving them together. Two photographers make everything run smoother on a wedding day and always ensure that you will get more pictures and a larger variety of images too!
