“Here’s to the Ones Who Dream” | Utah Wedding Photographers

I’m currently obsessed with La La Land.  I’ve been listening to the sound track nonstop while driving to and from work the past two weeks, much to Dallin’s dismay! You’d think I’d be sick of it, but man those melodies are catchy! Honestly, though it’s the message in the lyrics that I love the most. There are so many songs that I can connect with. Dallin and I have been an official photography business for 2 years now, but I’ve been shooting for the past 5 years. It’s crazy to see the growth we’ve made so far. I started out as a second shooter training with one of the best photographers, and over the years have become more and more independent in the photography industry.

I became a second shooter and got my foot in the door completely by chance, it almost seemed too good to be true. I’d always been interested in photography, but never considered it an option while going to college for my teaching degree. One afternoon after coming home from a busy day at school I opened an email that I had received from our wedding photographer expecting it to be information or advice of some sort. Instead I read sentences about how he loved my photography he’d seen and that although I didn’t have all the skills necessary yet to be a professional, I had the perfect personality for the job. As you can imagine, I was completely flattered and confused. I had never shown him my photos and I’d never inquired about any second shooting opportunities. I replied to his email and was overjoyed about this chance to work as a photographer! He emailed me back minutes later apologizing because he’d sent the email to the wrong “Jessie” in his address book, but he gave me a glimmer of hope when he said, “This could be a blessing in disguise” and that I could send him photos over the next little while and maybe a job could come later on. Well, I did just that, got a job as a second shooter about a year later and bought my first little Nikon D3100. I took that camera and shot my first ever wedding as a second shooter in 2012. I was terrified and so nervous. I love to look back and see how far I’ve come since then.

Dallin and I have big dreams for Capturing History but we believe in taking it one step at a time, building piece by piece to become the best we can be.  I love this lyric from La La Land, “Here’s to the ones who dream, foolish as they may seem.”
