Behind the Scenes 2019 | Our Life as Utah Wedding Photographers

2019 has been a big year for us as a business. We have met and worked with more couples and vendors than any year before. We know that the reason we love living this life as Utah wedding photographers is 100% because of the people we work with. You are all amazing, and we wish we could find a better way to tell each of you how much we love you and how you’ve touched our lives.

This post is one of our favorites of the whole year, not just because of Dallin’s hilarious faces, but because it shows the reality and sometimes the humor behind so many moments we got to share with each of you! These photos reveal what happens behind the camera and behind the scenes of many of our sessions and weddings.

First though, we wanted to take a minute to give a huge shout-out to Brooke Major, who has been what we refer to as our “Padawan Learner.” While she has been learning with us and helping us this past year, she also has gotten a ton of behind the scenes photos during weddings and sessions. Most of the photos in this post were taken by her, so we cannot thank her enough! This post simply would not be possible without her, so thank you Brooke!!! And without further ado, here’s a little peek into our life as Utah wedding photographers!

First off are all of our behind the scene photos with our third shooter and Padawan learner, Brooke Major! She is an excellent model when we need to test a scene or lighting, and loves to have bonding time with “Octavius” the softbox.

Brooke is also our “model” when we need to get our camera settings correct. We joke around that she often looks like a “troubled” youth in many of these shots, worthy of a “help the troubled youth” commercial (insert Sara McLaughlin music here). Dallin took the shot below before realizing that his white balance was very blue on a very rainy day… but it somehow looks even “cooler” with a sad blue hue!

See how fast Brooke is learning her Jedi skills, she’s already practicing being a “creeper in the bushes” like Dallin!

Dallin is also constantly a model when Jessie needs to get her settings correct for any cake cutting photos. You can see his cake cutting crusade continues from last year!

Some of our favorite photos are the pictures we get with our couples on their wedding day!

We’re going to title this section “Domestically Dallin”! Dallin has unique domesticated talents, which include being our expert dress “fluffer”, veil flier, boutonniere pinner, table etiquette extraordinaire, and has held the winning record for making the most photogenic food plates at receptions or luncheons.

Sometimes the veil flying is a little more enthusiastic than normal, and the veil actually takes off!

The trick to a good dress “fluff” is the dress fluffing face!

We can’t forget Jessie (her name is first in our business name after all)! Whether lying on the ground, getting doggy kisses, or being in the middle of a dance party scene, Jessie is the lifeblood of our business.

Thanks to the help from one of our couples, this year we have dubbed Dallin “The Candid Creeper”. We have always said that he is the creeper in the bushes (quite literally) so that he can get some really cool shots, but “Candid Creeper” has stuck. Here he is in his natural creepiness.

The many faces of Dallin! Dallin always makes a point to keep a session fun and loves to pose with ridiculous faces when he knows he’s on camera. Here’s the second edition of “Faces of Dallin”!

To all of you that have done the “Giggle Kiss”… you know what Dallin is teaching during this next photo.

Dallin also has the “Secret Weapon” to get kids to smile. This technique has only been seen by a few lucky wedding parties!

Just another day sprinting in wedding attire down the streets of Salt Lake! Audrey and Jordan, you guys are incredible!

Even on wedding days with the craziest weather our couples have been amazing!

Any chance we get we love to bring Liam along to help. He’s become the best location scouting buddy, and model snuggler there ever was!

He’s such a little ladies man!

He’s almost too big to be carried around in a backpack, so you won’t see him out very often with us. We’re so glad to have had these memories with him!

This past year we started incorporating “Octavius” the softbox into our sessions! Here are a few behind the scenes prior to editing Dallin out!

One of the best things about the two of us both being at sessions is that we get to demonstrate poses to our couples. We’re getting pretty good at this modeling thing! 🙂

Sometimes you have to be like a National Geographic photographer to capture engaged couples in their natural habitat.

We’ve met and worked with so many talented vendors this year. Not only are they incredible at their craft, but they are awesome humans as well!

Whenever we can, we try to get a selfie with our couples. We can’t believe how awesome you all are, and we’re honored that we get to be a part of your stories! Our life as Utah wedding photographers would not be possible without you, so thank you!!
