When you are looking for that perfect photographer for your Utah wedding, one of the things that you need to keep an eye out for is if they offer engagement sessions. Maybe you think an engagement session isn’t a big deal, or your friend is going to do yours for you. Before you make that final decision, here are our top four reasons why YOU need an engagement session!
The holidays are the perfect season for your guy (or yourself!) to “pop” the question in Utah and across the United States! In fact about 40% of proposals happen between Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day! This means that proposal season is upon us, and as soon as that ring is on your finger you will probably start dreaming about your wedding and all its details! When you are looking for that perfect photographer for your Utah wedding, one of the things that you need to keep an eye out for is if they offer engagement sessions. Maybe you think an engagement session isn’t a big deal, or your friend is going to do yours for you. Before you make that final decision, here are our top three reasons why YOU need an engagement session!
Do you usually hate pictures that are taken of you? Maybe you always squint your eyes, or you often see the cursed double chin. Then, you wonder why in the world you never look like your real self in your pictures? Well, you aren’t the only one who has that happen. We’ve both had our share of awkward pictures. If you ask Jessie’s college roommates, they probably have an entire image folder filled with black mail worthy photos!
We love taking engagement photos and we know how to make you look like not only you, but your best you. All those awkward pictures that you would despise will never see the light of day! Say peace out to squinty eyes and double chins!
Your engagement pictures are the ones that you will hang up in your home and use the most on social media. Our couples usually bring two outfits to their engagement session. Typically they have a more causal, but trendy date night look, as well as an elegant and dressed up outfit. This is such a special time in your life and it’s great to capture you both and your relationship as it really is before you become husband and wife.
In Utah, engagement periods typically range from one year to three months before the wedding date. We’ve even had a wedding where we met our couple one month before their wedding. That was definitely not the ideal situation for us or for them. Weddings require WAY more planning than you would expect, especially if you are doing it on your own and aren’t hiring a professional planner and designer.
Engagement sessions allow us to connect and get to know you and your fiancé before the busy wedding day. We love hanging out and chatting with our couples and we believe it builds an essential connection. When we get to shoot your engagement pictures, we learn about you, your interests and what poses and prompts work the best for you both. Candid images are our favorite to capture because they show the real you and let your personalities shine. That’s a huge difference maker when it comes to your actual wedding day!
You might have a friend that is doing your engagement pictures. Maybe you’ve known them forever, or they were your college roommate that is looking to build their own photography business. We can’t blame you or them one bit for having them take your engagement pictures, it’s a great experience for the both of you. Why not get more pictures though and do an engagement session with us too?
With every full wedding day collection we gift an engagement session to our couples. Do we want to just work for free? Well, when it has the benefits that we listed in the last section, we definitely do! When we work with you before your wedding day, it makes pictures on your wedding day a breeze! Wedding timelines, even when they are seamless, can have snags. There are so many moving pieces and parts and a perfect/flawless wedding day is almost impossible. Doing and engagement session makes you ready for those snags. If those snags don’t happen, and you have a perfect day, then you will get more pictures because we will move faster! Win, win, don’t you think?
Engagement pictures allow us to capture the real, non-awkward you. They also allow us to build a connection and hangout with you both and to be fully prepared for your wedding day! You can also print and use your engagement pictures at your reception, in your announcements, or on your save the dates.
